Ride with GPS – a benefit of KBC membership
A Club Account at Ride with GPS (www.ridewithgps.com) will be available soon for all members of the Kalamazoo Bicycle Club. A primary use of a Club Account is accessing the route library – a repository of routes the Club continues to compile that includes regular weekly ride routes, KBC annual event routes (such as the Ride to South Haven, Ride Around Kalamazoo, etc.), Kal-Tour routes, and member-submitted routes.
Account administrators are in the process of setting up the Club Account, which is expected to be available to KBC members in winter 2018 so that it will be ready for use on the first rides of the upcoming riding season. In the mean time, if you do not currently have a Ride with GPS account you might want to open your own free account, download the mobile app and start playing with the individual account features. The “help” area of their website has a lot of good tutorials to help you get started. There you can also learn more about the Club Account benefits and premium options that will be available to you on the Club Account routes. Go to www.ridewithgps.com to get started. Look for future announcements about how to access the KBC Club Account and how to submit routes.
When using the Club Account, members will have all the added features of a paid “Premium” account on Ride with GPS. A Club Account adds some really great features – including include turn-by-turn navigation, off-line route access, advanced maps & cue sheets – that are not available with the individual free Ride with GPS account. Members of KBC will get this $80/year value for FREE as part of their club membership! Only members of KBC will have access to the routes and premium features in the Club Account – one more reason to be a dues-paying member of Kalamazoo Bicycle Club!
Submitting Routes to Club Account
To submit a route for sharing through the Club Account: create the route in your individual Ride with GPS account, make sure the privacy setting is set to “public,” and then copy the URL/link for that route into an email message and send it to routesandrides@ kalamazoobicycleclub.org. In addition to pasting the link to the route you created in Ride with GPS, please provide a bit of a description of the route. Information you might want to include is the following: type of road surface (we will assume all routes are paved roads unless otherwise stated); hazards/cautions of the route; if it’s particularly hilly or scenic or other attributes of the ride; and unless it’s obvious you can include where the start/finish is for parking purposes.
Publicly Available Route Maps
Maps provided below show routes of various rides that the club, or a member of the club, has used in the past. Some are still in use, others have changed quite a bit because of changing road conditions. Be sure to drive the route before riding it if you are unfamiliar with it. If road conditions make the route unusable, please notify the KBC Webmaster so that route maps can be edited or removed.
