KBC Recovery Party
KBC Social Director, John Idema, says “Snow…schmo…” set aside January 27, 2018 for the Kalamazoo Bicycle Club’s annual Recovery Party. The Recovery Party is arguably the best off-the-bike event of the season, and again will be held at the architectural firm of Eckert Wordell, thanks to longtime KBC member David Jarl.
Dress is extremely casual, but no spandex, please. Save that for later in 2018! We go from 7:00 to 10:00pm. The party is potluck, so please bring a side dish or salad or dessert to share. We’ll supply the plates, utensils napkins, beer, wine, soft drinks and small sandwiches.
The parking lot to the north of the Haymarket Building (Lot #9) charges $1.75 to get in, then $1.00/hr. thereafter. There are also parking meters along Water Street.
We’ll have some awards to hand out, giveaways from local bike shops, and general fun. The Recovery Party has always offered up a good chance to catch up with people you know, and to meet people you haven’t yet. Block off January 27, 2017 and start counting down the days.
KalTour Committee Meeting
The start location and routes for KalTour 2018 will be discussed at this meeting.
KBC Anniversary Ride
It’s hard to believe that the KBC Anniversary Ride is less than a month away! Where in blazes did summer go? So, circle your calendar for the third Saturday in September (September 16, 2017) and plan on having a fun day on your bicycle and having lunch with other members of the Kalamazoo Bicycle Club.
As in the past, we will start and finish our ride at the Kal-Haven Trailhead on North 10th Street. After riding join the party and enjoy a well-earned meal with your favorite bike-buddies at the pavilion there. Plan on rolling out at 10:00. We will have routes and paces to accommodate various abilities. Ride maps will be available at the start.
You will want to pick a route and a pace that will have you back at the Trailhead by noon because that’s when the potluck will begin, right at 12:00. We will provide pizza, drinks, plates, cups, napkins and flatware. Please bring a side dish or dessert to pass to replace all those calories you burned on the ride! Invite a friend to join us as well. We look forward to seeing you at the Kal-Haven Trailhead on Saturday, September 16!

The KBC Pedal Women’s Ride (PWR) meets each Tuesday evening as soon as weather permits in the Spring through the end of October. Our aim is to support and mentor women new to road cycling and to offer an easy, social spin for more experienced riders. We ride routes of 20 to 30 miles on quiet trails and country roads and roll past four lovely lakes. These are no-drop rides with various paces, along longer and shorter routes, based on attendance. Go to the KBC Club Rides page https://www.kalamazoobicycleclub.org/rides/club-rides/ and click on “Tuesday” for more details. And, be sure to See the KBC Face Book page for updates and to verify times.
